On October 17, GCC hosted its second “Missions Tech” seminar. It was put together by our Missions Committee to prepare people for short term missions as well as to discover their calling to go to the field full-time. The focus for this seminar, taught by Scott Cherry from Anchor Ministries was to give the attendees a greater understanding of Muslim culture and Islam with the purpose of bridging it with the truth of the gospel.

In essence, the team learned that Muslims believe that man is weak and makes mistakes but is basically good. God (Allah) is supreme and holy but cannot be known personally. Muslims hope that God will be merciful on Judgment Day if their good deeds outweigh their bad, but they have no security concerning salvation.

Muslims believe in the Torah, the Psalms, and the Gospels and consider them to be holy books, but they believe that the Bible has been changed and is not trustworthy. All those errors were corrected in the dictating of the Koran to Mohammed by the angel Gabriel.

Concerning Jesus Christ, Muslims believe he was a good man but not God. Many would say that Jesus “appeared” to die on the cross but it was not really him. Because Jesus never died, there was no resurrection and it seems illogical to them that Jesus would pay for their sins. They believe each person must pay for their own sins by doing good works. Most Muslims have the impression that all Americans are Christians, but they have a low view of Americans because of the way we are represented in the media.
